Santorini is the most popular Greek destination and a worldwide famous island! It is called honeymoon destination as well. I was so full of expectation, everything I dreamed of, I got it. It is a real Greek paradise.
Santorini known also as a volcanic island, it is famous for its good food and wine; the main activity is absolutely tourism.
VOLCANO ACTIVITY IN SANTORINI
Living with volcanoes today or in the past, it is not bad. People living near volcanoes connect their activities with religion. Volcano on Santorini Island formed 3,600 years ago by blowing center out from the island.
“Today the result of these eruptions is the creation of five separate islands, Santorini, Therasia, an uninhabited island called Aspronisi and the volcanic islands of Palaia Kammeni and Nea Kammeni”(Santorini View, 2020).
Various agencies offer one-day excursions of the caldera by boat. You have time to explore, swim in hot springs and have lunch.
The first touch with Greece was when I step on Kamari beach. Walking from the hotel through blue-white streets to Kamari beach. Sleepy mornings turned into crowded afternoon and romantic peaceful evenings with open bars and restaurants playing authentic Greek music.
From Kamari we hiked on top of the 360 meters high Messavouno mountain where is located the Ancient Thera. The road is an ancient street surrounded by a section of the cemetery of the ancient city. It is a nice panoramic view on Kamari beach, Santorini airport, and Perissa beach on the other side. In the middle of the hill, we stopped by the church of Zoodochos Pigi. The church, built in the depths of a huge rock, offers natural spring of drinkable water which lies on a natural rock bowl.
Oia is famous as a sunset spot. It is perfect to explore the narrow walkways, go shopping, enjoy coffee on the top of the cliff, and be prepared to fill your camera with tons of photos. Here is one of Santorini’s most photogenic spots.
Ammoudi Bay sits just down the cliff from Oia. It is a lovely spot down there with a couple of restaurants, you can jump to the sea as well.
You can enjoy the view while wandering the narrow walkways, especially in the nightlife is awesome. All people on the streets, enjoying in the restaurants, listening the music on the street, or going to shop souvenirs on vendors stand.
From the center of Fira, you can reach the small port of Skala by walking or riding a donkey down the steep path (587 steps) or by taking the cable-car.
RED BEACH AT AKROTIRI
You will find the famous Red Beach below a spectacular red cliff wall. The beach is accessible along a path from the town of Akrotiri. I recommend renting a scooter or a quad to go around the island. It is so much fun anyway.
JUST HAVE FUN AND ENJOY GREEK FOOD!
From Greek salad, classic dips such as tzatziki with fresh pita bread and olive oil, fresh fish, moussaka, filled peppers, to gyros and souvlaki!
Greece is definetely food paradise!
Greece never dissapoint!
