It is an award-winning destination with picturesque fine-grained beaches. It was voted for the Best island in the world. WHY NEW BORACAY? The island was shut down in 2018 for 6 months. Because of mass tourism.
The influx of tourists caused shopping centers and prestigious hotels to form on the coast, with locals living behind them with locally-owned small shops and restaurants. The problem also arises with the management of sewage and disposal systems. The island was given time to breathe and went through massive rehabilitation for six months. Many resorts were also penalized and forced to close due to numerous violations of environmental laws and regulations. Resorts who followed new rules could reopen it again.

For enter to island hotel booking is required. You need to pay 100 PHP for terminal fee and 75 PHP for an environmental fee per person. These are just a few restrictions, you need to pay attention. Now the Island of Boracay become more family-friendly.
The main beach White beach is a 4 km long beach with hotels, restaurants and shopping centers. You can do different activities such as paddle boarding, kayaking, windsurfing or you can rent ski jets.
On the other side of the island, you can find Bulabong beach and a couple of private beaches. There is a golf course as well. It was really windy there and low tide in the morning. I did not like it here so much. You can see they are building a lot of new accommodations.
From Bulabong beach there is access to a hill called Mt. Luho. We wanted to go to the viewpoint, but, unfortunately, it was closed.
On the north side of the island, you will find Puka beach. Nice long beach with a lot of vendors trying to sell fruits and drinks. I really enjoy here, because it was not a lot of people like on White beach. Here boat tours start or have a break on a journey around the island.
HOW TO GET TO BORACAY ISLAND?
We flew from Manila to Caticlan Airport. Then you need to take a boat to the island. Actually we did not wait any minute; anyway, they are waiting for a lot of local boats. Just do not get fooled at the airport. They offer transportation with boat and tricycle to get you to the hotel for 700 PHP. You can get half less than this price.
In total, we spend here for 3 days. I enjoyed the island, especially because we came from mountain provinces (a lot of hiking) in the North Philippines. If you want to have a party, I am afraid this island is not the right one anymore.
After Boracay, we visited the Island of Carabao. CLICK HERE for more.
