We spend 3 days in Krabi, just before Christmas. Krabi is the right mix of wilderness and peace, untouched nature, jungle and white sand beaches. Crazy and calm.
In this article I will present you my 5 highlights:
- Railay beach,
- Ao Nam Mao Beach and Ao Nang beach,
- Tha Pom Klong Song Nam,
- Tiger Cave Temple and
- night markets.
It has three beaches Railay West (the main), Railay East and Phra Nang beach. It is really crowded but it has also nice view points and cliffs are just stunning. Railay beach is not connected by any roads due to the tall limestone cliffs. You can come to Railay just with long boats (cost 100 Baht one way). We came from Ao Nammao pier to East Beach.
We went on first view point, where was the amazing view on the East beach and on the other side of the peninsula. There is also access to the lagoon, but it was closed to go there. !!! WARNING: The trail is a little dangerous! It is climbing area, not walking train! Ropes can help you get t the top. It is really steep, you need good trekking shoes and it can be slippery!!!
There is a lot of monkeys here around, so be careful that they do not steal you your belongings. For the perfect end of the day we watched sunset on the Railay West Beach.
AO NAM MAO BEACH and AO NANG BEACH
We stayed in nice beach resort called Dawn of Happiness. Resort turned to be perfect relax spot by the beach. Did you hear about water phenomena in the Gulf of Thailand? This unusual reality covers all beach destinations in the Gulf. High tide last all through the day from November to March, with low water all night. Low tide runs all through the day from May to September with high tide all night. The reversals are relatively quick on Andaman coast, the tides flow in perfect normality: 4 tides every 25 hours.
THA POM KLONG SONG NAM
To get to Tha Pong Klong Song Nam National park it is the best thing to rent a scooter and drive a little more than 25 kilometers from Krabi town to the north. Entrance fee: 20 Baht.
Walking through mangrove forest on wooden path and admiring the water which is clear and nice blue. Because it was really hot, we jumped to the water to refresh. There is special spot where the water is high enough and it is area for swimming.
Why is this park so SPECIAL?
Tha Pom Klong Song Nam meand “Two water canal.” This means the stream is fresh water spring mixed with the salty Andaman Sea water under.
TIGER CAVE TEMPLE
Tiger Cave Temple is a Buddhist temple approximately 3 km away from Krabi town. This is one of the biggest attractions for tourists because of the breath taking view. To reach the summit, you will first have to climb up over 1,200 stairs. The stairs are very steep and it can take from 30 minutes to over an hour, depends on your shape. On your way you will find wild monkeys all the way up to the top. At the top of the mountain you will find a large, iconic Buddha statue. But the views will pay you off with every step you did. You will see a stunning panoramic view of Krabi and the surrounding landscapes. We came here for sunset. On our way down we had an adventure with monkeys, because they wanted to steal backpack from one French lady.
You can visit also a cave which is decorated with large tiger statues, and the temple is designed in traditional Thai architecture.
Thailand is a country where night markets are the best. It is A MUST! There is an Ao Nang night market. Night markets are mostly about food; from all kinds of barbecued meat to exotic freshly cut Thai fruits, coconut drinks, fruit shakes. Near our place there was also a Muslim night market with Muslim cuisine and also Thai cuisine. Here was also a lot of clothes sellers. If you will be in Krabi town, do not forget to visit City market 😉
Krabi was one of the best places I´ve visited. We decided to be two days more in this area and that´s why we skip Phuket. We do not regret it. Next trip we took, was 2 days trip to Phi Phi Islands.
To be contunued …
